It’s a present for his 18th birthday. He just opened it and is already playing Careless Whisper by George Michael. It has really good sound.

I was honestly surprised by the quality of this saxophone and the sound it produces. For a student-level instrument, it feels really well made. I believe it could even work as an intermediate saxophone in the long run. The customer service was excellent, I’m very happy with my purchase.

This is an update from my 2023 purchase. Still a great horn. I do my own repair work as there are no pros close (live in Australia). After about 400 hours on this machine, did a clean, adjust and lubricate. This involves removing all the keywork, cleaning the pads and machine. There were no light leaks and it is still in excellent regulation. Surprising. Only replaced two corks more as a personal preference. It produces good sound, high to low, soft to loud. It is a bit noisy because of the low cost pads and regulation material but zoK for this price point. The important thing is I enjoy playing it. Will put in high end pads in the next 6 months along with a cork and felt (green) setup I like. That it arrives in playing condition via DHL and a JP pro sets it up is high value.

I am switching to the Jean Paul Family. I was blessed with the opportunity to try one yesterday and I fell in love with it. The fact that it is a student model and plays and feels just like my professional Julius Keilwerth is insane. Definitely keeping this sax as my main. 🔥

I received damaged product which i reported by uploading a video of showing the damage i wrote an email in reply from the team received that they will look in to this and come with the better solution but nothing have happened and they don't respond also. So who ever is reading this review I would suggest not to buy any product from this company because they have zero support if you received defective product your hard earned money will go waist.

Update: I was able to get the faulty saxophone replaced, and I want to thank the folks at Jean Paul for expediting the exchange process. They made sure the new saxophone arrived just in time for band class, and the replacement is working well so far. Because of this excellent support, I’m changing my rating to 4 stars. I’ll check back with an update after we’ve had more time to use the instrument.

I ordered the AS400 Alto Saxophone for my son’s band class, and at first, everything seemed great. The case is well-made, and the saxophone fit snugly. It sounded wonderful while it was working, but unfortunately, within just 15 minutes of play testing after unboxing, the lower octave key assembly fell off. This has made the instrument unusable, and we need it for band class in less than a week.

I submitted a support ticket several days ago but have yet to receive any response. While I understand that we might have received a faulty unit, this does raise concerns about quality control. I really hope we can get this issue resolved quickly, as we're now facing the prospect of needing a replacement in time for band class. I would appreciate any assistance in getting this sorted out as soon as possible.

Played the horn for over a month and I love the horn. Sound is on the warm side. With the default mouth piece and the Rico 2.0 reed that comes with it, I can easily get the next octave overtone without using the octave key over all the 1st degree notes. However, the right pinky keys are abit tight (maybe my right pinky is just weak). Overall very satisfy with the horn.

I will definitely go for the pro horn once I saved enough money.

On a separate note, I also order the Optima mouthpiece but sad to say, after a month the tapered end of the mouthpiece chipped for no reason. Don't believe it is due to me bitting on it as the mouthpiece that comes with the horn are still intact.

I bought this instrument for my wife and after many many squeaks of reacquainting herself with the Student Alto and after 3 months of regular practice, she is loving it—she said it was like stepping back in time when last she played. The Jean Paul AS-400 Silver is an absolutely gorgeous sax and it sounds fantastic. It's been easy to get started playing on. I'm 63 and have minimal music knowledge, and have never played a woodwind other than a few mins 20 years ago on a clarinet. There is an unbelievable wealth of lessons online to get you started, and the case for the instrument is perfect to protect it. So far I've found no quality issues at all and it was nicely set up when I got it. Customer service answered a couple pre-purchase questions quickly and fully. Their enthusiasm was clear in their responses. Excellent overall experience and a fantastic sax at a very reasonable price.

Landon is loving his new alto saxophone! He is very proud of it and has enjoyed playing it! It arrived in time for his spring concert and jazz band performance! Headed to high school next year and looking forward to playing his new instrument!

I have a student alto sax and it works PERFECTLY! All notes come out perfectly and it sounds amazing. I did a concert and all of the notes came out perfectly! I would give it ten stars if I could!

I have got an AS-400 from you a few years ago and love it.
I have played horns way more expensive then this one but this one is better.

I play it on my new album “& Tails” on the Musings on Covid song.

I recently purchased the AS-400 Student Alto Saxophone. The process was easy and sax was delivered on time. Good communication with Jon G at Jean Paul. The quality of the sax is high - look is professional, sound is full and really like the case that came with purchase. Overall, highly recommend using Jean Paul for future purchases.
